Tuesday June 26 23. No call, but a great (and long) SUP foiling downwind video.

Sorry, no call today as my computer is being serviced. But I managed to upload yet another SUP foiling downwind video. It starts with a detailed illustration of my placement of the Foil Drive battery box on my board depending on the discipline. At 5:51 I show the way I adjust the position of my mast in the water. At 7:45 I show the way I get on my feet and after that it's all action: epic sections in which I feel like Kai Lenny, not so epic ones in which I go back to being Kai Penny, couple of screw-ups and falls, but overall mostly flying over and with the open ocean waves. This is the most amazing thing I've ever done in the water.

Monday 6 26 23 morning call

Hookipa yesterday.

6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers

    • 2.9ft
      , 14s, S 180º
    • 1.4ft
      , 18s, S 170º

Lanai

    • 2.3ft
      , 14s, S 190º
    • 1.6ft
      , 12s, S 190º

South energy continues at the buoys while Barbers also feel some new 18s period from the second pulse of the same swell. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

NW001

  • 1.1ft
    , 11s, WNW 290º

Hanalei

  • 5.9ft
    , 7s, ENE 65º
  • 1.9ft
    , 13s, NW 310º

Mokapu

    • 6.5ft
      , 8s, ENE 70º

Tiny WNW-NW energy at NW and Hanalei won't do much locally, where it's again about the windswell, which came down a notch compared to yesterday. Home guess for Hookipa is waist to chest high.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: possibly over the ice sheet) from Windy.

Sunday 6 25 23 morning call

My computer keeps resurrecting and saving me from the nightmare of learning a new operating system that is clearly not designed the way my mind works.

Blog reader Shep Nelson made this Maliko downwind video and I'm happy to share it. He was one of the many that participated to a downwind race in Oahu yesterday, won by Kane (on a Lift 120) and Gaby (on Gofoil RS850).
We sell Lift, Gofoil, F-one and Armstrong foils at Hi-Tech.

8am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers

    • 3.1ft
      , 15s, S 175º

Lanai

    • 1.7ft
      , 14s, S 190º

Big difference between the two buoys. It could be that it's hitting Oahu more than us, this is a set at Ala Moana.

Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

Hanalei

  • 6.1ft
    , 8s, ENE 70º
  • 3.9ft
    , 4s, ENE 70º

Mokapu

    • 8.2ft
      , 8s, E 80º

Windswell jumped up and turned more east at Mokapu. Home guess for Hookipa is waist to shoulder high and windy. Epic downwinders conditions again.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

Sorry guys, my computer finally died.

I'm going to give myself a week to try and learn how to use this Mac I bought as a backup before I throw it away and get another PC. Not a chance I'll be able to post a morning call this morning, but stay tuned, as I'll keep trying. It's a full on spiritual exercise. This thing pissed me off at least 5 times, since I turned it on. Wish me luck and see you soon.

Friday 6 23 23 morning call

Hookipa yesterday.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers

    • 1.3ft
      , 11s, SW 215º

Lanai

    • 1.2ft
      , 12s, SSW 200º
    • 0.9ft
      , 9s, S 170º
    • 0.3ft
      , 20s, SSW 205º

Very low energy at the buoys for today. Lanai is sensitive enough to register 0.3ft 20s (direction not reliable though) of the fairly large swell that will start to hit tomorrow. Below are the maps of June 16 through 21 that show the fetch that generated it. Started straight south and moved east just a bit. Surfline is calling for 3ft 16s tomorrow afternoon.

Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

Hanalei

  • 6.1ft

Mokapu

    • 4.6ft
      , 8s, ENE 65º
    • 4.4ft
      , 5s, ENE 75º

Elevated NE to ENE 8s energy continues. Home guess for Hookipa is waist to chest high with possible head highers.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: possibly over the ice sheet) from Windy.
