Wednesday 4 27 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this album.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers

2.2ft at 13s S 185º
0.5ft at 17s S 180º

Long lasting south swell is now down to 13s but still at a lovely 2.2ft while small long period energy appears at Barbers. Below are the maps of April 20 and 21 showing a possible source in that fetch deep down in the Tasman Sea. Direction should be from around 210 if that's really it, but it wouldn't be the first time a small size swell direction is incorrect at the buoys. It often happens when there's a bigger size swell from a different direction at the same time, like in this case.

Wherever it is from, there are some sets from it, like this one.

Can you tell the difference between the 17s above and the 13s set below? Just look at the distance between the waves.

Check the Lahaina and Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
Waimea
2.6ft @ 11s from 332° (NNW)

Mokapu
3.6ft @ 9s from 73° (ENE)

NNW energy down to minimal levels and only present at Waimea. Home guess for Hookipa is for belly to shoulder high.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
