Hookipa yesterday.
XXL swell on the way for Sunday/Monday. In addition to the Eddie called on in Oahu, the Legends of the Bay contest will also run at Honolua. Below is the tentative heat order.
5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
- 4.2ft, 7s, S 170º
Barbers
- 5.4ft, 6s, S 190º
The satellite photo at the bottom of the post shows a front brushing Kauai and the southerly flow preceding it has generated the short period southerly windswell that is at the buoys. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
NW001
- 4.3ft, 14s, WNW 290º
Hanalei
- 5.3ft, 14s, NW 315º
Waimea
- 4.1ft, 13s, NW 320º
WNW swell announced and described yesterday performed slightly under the forecast. Today the waves on the north shore should be of manageable size everywhere, home guess for Hookipa is around head and a half and clean thanks to the lack of wind in the morning.
Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: possibly over the ice sheet) from Windy.
North Pacific (about 4 days travel time from the NW corner of the North Pacific):
