Saturday 8 27 22 morning call

Last post until September 22nd, as I'm going on a trip to different places. One of them is Peru where I hope I'll be able to do something like this.

Hookipa yesterday.

6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Lanai

  • 1.8ft
    , 14s, S 170º

Barbers

  • 1.3ft
    , 14s, S 175º

Small southerly energy at the buoys. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

Mokapu

  • 5.4ft
    , 8s, E 80º

The NW-NNW small energy disappeared at the buoys, so home guess for Hookipa is based only on the windswell: around waist high.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

Friday 8 26 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday afternoon. I like this way of laying down the wing in the bottom turn, like a windsurf sail.

That's the top turn he did right after it.
6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Lanai

    • 2.4ft
      , 10s, S 180º
    • 1.2ft
      , 17s, SSE 165º
    • 0.7ft
      , 13s, S 185º

Barbers

  • 1.7ft
    , 13s, S 185º
  • 0.8ft
    , 17s, S 175º

Mix of small long, medium and short period southerly energies at the buoys. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

Thursday 8 25 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday morning.

6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore

  • 1.3ft
    , 13s, S 185º

  • 2.3ft
    , 7s, SSE 160º
  • 0.4ft
    , 18s, S 185º

The Tahiti swell is winding down, that 0.4ft 18s at Barbers comes from the angular spreading of a strong fetch aimed at South America that happened on the 18th. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW101

  • 3.4ft
    , 10s, N 350º

Hanalei

  • 2.1ft
    , 10s, NNW 340º

Waimea

Small NNW energy continues at the upstream buoys. Home guess for Hookipa is chest to shoulder high.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

Wednesday 8 24 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday morning.

Hookipa yesterday afternoon.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Lanai

  • 2.2ft
    , 13s, S 170º

Barbers

  • 4ft
    , 12s, SSW 195º

South swell yesterday was actually bigger than the day before. The webcam was down at the time of the post, so I couldn't point that out. Webcam over buoys, always. Today it's smaller, but still with beautiful and good size waves like the one below. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW001

  • 3.4ft
    , 10s, NNW 330º

Hanalei

2.5ft, 11s, NW 325º

Waimea

  • 2.5ft
    , 11s, NW 325º
  • 1.2ft
    , 9s, NNW 335º

First NW swell of the season continues at the buoys. Home guess for Hookipa is around head high and clean in the morning.

Wind map at noon (2 days old prediction). The other ones can be found here.

Tuesday 8 23 22 morning call

South shore yesterday.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Lanai

  • 3.3ft
    , 13s, S 185º

Barbers

  • 4.1ft
    , 14s, SSW 195º

South swell on the decline, but with still fun size waves on offer. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency. It's down at the moment, maybe they got no electricity over there too like this morning on the north shore.

North shore
NW101

  • 4.2ft
    , 13s, NW 305º

Hanalei

  • 2.4ft
    , 13s, NNW 340º

Waimea

  • 2ft
    , 13s, NNW 330º

Mokapu

  • 3.4ft
    , 8s, E 85º

First late August small NW swell is on the rise at the upstream buoys. Below are the maps of August 18 through 23 showing the fetch that generated it. As you can see, there were two sources, a stronger more distant one and a weaker closer one.

The Pauwela buoy is all ready to be deployed, they just can't find a certified boat that can do the job in an economically feasible way (take it as it is, that's the inside info I got). The home guess for Hookipa would be a lot more precise if Pauwela was out there, I'm going to throw chest to shoulder high and glassy for most of the morning.

Wind map at noon (1 day old prediction). The other ones can be found here.

Monday 8 22 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday.

6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Lanai

  • 3.1ft
    , 15s, SSW 200º

Barbers

  • 3.9ft
    , 15s, SSW 195º

South swell is peaking with well overhead sets at select spots. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
Hanalei

  • 2.6ft
    , 9s, N 0º

Waimea

  • 2.2ft
    , 8s, N 350º

Mokapu

  • 3.5ft
    , 8s, ENE 60º

Small northerly energy at the upstream buoys should give Hookipa waist to chest high waves. The should increase tomorrow with the first small NW swell of the season.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
