Monday 7 15 24 morning call

Hookipa yesterday.

The results of the Paddle Imua are here. With no Foil Drive division, I was going to do the wing race, but my wing broke as I was entering the water at Maliko, so that was a no go.

The huge number of participants and the impressive performances by the top finishers showed the progress of the foiling sports, but this race also showed the need for better regulated starts and arrivals. The SUP foilers for example started 4-5 minutes earlier than when they were supposed to (1:10pm) and that must have been a bummer for the ones who were still sitting on the board waiting for the correct starting time.

Also, Finn Spencer appears to be the winner because it walked through the beach line first while the videos clearly show Kane De Wilde crossing the water finish line first (which was announced to be the finish for the foilers), a good 10 meters ahead of Finn (see screenshot below).

There were two finish times recorded for the top foil racers. The official time was recorded manually by spotters as they passed the two yellow buoys. This is the time used for first, second, third etc. Kane won the SUP foil as you noted. Andrea's wing foil time was 17 mins 40 secs (or close to that). Then there was the time automatically recorded as they passed through the chute on the beach. The results you linked to only show this time, but for the top foilers this isn't the "real" result.
