Tuesday 3 26 19 morning call

The funding campaign for the new Lahaina harbor webcam has raised $705. Thanks a lot and let's keep them coming. I'm gonna start my posts with an update like this until it reaches its goal of $2,000.

A longboard session for me yesterday. Honolua was magic again.

There was more size in the early morning, as the swell was trending down throughout the day.

A little smaller after my session and a lot prettier with the sun. As you can see, there's a lot of vacationers that are not quite up to the wave. They don't bother me, call me weird, but I love the tourists. Tech note for my students: you go where you look. This lady never looked down the line and never went down the line.

Good waves (just a little choppier) at Hookipa too, the windsurfers are having an extended period of epic conditions (which will end tomorrow). This is my pick out of Jimmie Hepp's daily gallery.

4am significant buoy readings
South shore
Barbers
3.3ft @ 9s from 166° (SSE)
1.3ft @ 13s from 228° (SW)
1ft @ 16s from 189° (S)

Lanai
1.2ft @ 16s from 193° (SSW)

Still slivers of southerly energy at Lanai, while Barbers also feels a bit of southern hemisphere windswell. Yesterday it looked knee to thigh, today I'm gonna call it knee high on the Lahaina side.

North shore
NW101
4.8ft @ 8s from 74° (ENE)
4.7ft @ 12s from 20° (NNE)

N
5.4ft @ 12s from 309° (WNW)
4.6ft @ 9s from 54° (ENE)

Hanalei
4.6ft @ 12s from 3° (N)

Waimea
4.3ft @ 13s from 358° (N)

Mokapu
4.4ft @ 9s from 61° (ENE)

Pauwela
3.5ft @ 9s
3ft @ 11s from 348° (NNW)
3ft @ 13s from 346° (NNW)
2.8ft @ 7s from 47° (NE)

NNW swell down to only 3ft 11-13s at Pauwela (less than the Surfline forecast which still has 5.5ft 12s). That is still fun at Hookipa (will probably report before 7am), which will also have 3.5ft 9s from somewhere ENE.

Wind map at noon. Last wind of trades for a while.

North Pacific has several small scattered fetches.

South Pacific has a strong fetch deep down in the Tasman Sea.

Morning sky.
