Massive waves at Teahupoo on July 13 show the energy that is coming our way.
4am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
- 2.9ft, 15s, S 175º
- 0.4ft, 25s, S 190º
Barbers
- 2.6ft, 15s, S 185º
Southerly 15s energy remains elevated at the buoys, while Lanai gifts us with an extremely rare 25s reading belonging to the third and last and biggest of this wonderful series of swells. Below are the maps of July 9 through 12 that show the fetch that generated it. Good amount of direct aim, decent duration, pretty strong winds and acting upon existing seas were the recipe for this swell that is predicted to be one of the biggest of our lifetime.
Surfline is calling for 5ft 21s and 5.8ft 19s Saturday night. As a reference, I remember a 4ft 20s swell quite a few years ago that made for triple overhead Dumps and four times overhead La Perouse. If the prediction is correct, this should be even bigger. Not many places hold that size, but the ones that do will be totally firing.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
Mokapu
- 5.1ft, 7s, E 85º
- 1.2ft, 14s, SE 125º
Hilo
- 1.4ft, 13s, E 80º
- 1.5ft, 12s, ESE 110º
Windswell only on the north shore, home guess for Hookipa is waist to belly high.
