I should be resting...

...instead I keep trying to get in the ocean, despite of the fact that I have a bruised rib.

Yesterday I tried surfing. Forget it.

Today I tried stand up surfing. Paddling on one side is ok, but the other side hurts.
Caught a few waves at lowers (I tried the SOS big red 11.11 and I liked it much better than the blue 10.10) and then I had to give up.

Went back home to rest, but the wind sensor at the airport (and a gust at my house that came from a weird direction) told me that a light Kona wind had picked up.
"Wait", I said, "I still have to try longboard sailing..."
Went back to Kanaha and rigged a 5.0 (easier to uphaul than the 5.5). The waves were tiny (belly high on the big sets), but wavesailing on the longboard with the Kona is still one of the most fun things I can do... worth it and not too much pain.

Well, yesterday I did go to Ho'o to take photos. Here are some of an unknown surfer. He might be unkwown, but he's pretty damn good! Look at how he demolishes this wave in the sequence below.

And here he's on another wave. Roundhouse cut back.

Here are all the other 39 photos that I took. I like them all.

Last, but not least, here's a little video that I took Sunday at Kanaha.
Enjoy the view from my beach chair (grab a cold one to make the experience more realistic...).
If you can't see it on this page, try here.

Tomorrow, more Kona and a swell on the rise (even though from a direction a bit too west for Kanaha).

Oh yeah, I should be resting...

Again nice post. I don't think Lano is the only one to appreciate some of the pics ;) That littele movie was fun to watch, I'll wait a bit with grabbing a cold one (as it morning here) but will do later tonight.

thanks for the video, that was hilarious. Unfortunately the "young lady" did not come through with the entertainment I was expecting, but I'll let my imagination take me there!

Stronger Konas today, expect you'll be sailing. surf mo bettah today

oh - that was not me running - due to my knee injury I won't be doing any more of that till after surgery. A sacrifice I can live with if I can still surf.... which is what I was doing at that time instead ... stand up at back yards - big fun on big blue. I think it rides like a giant fish board, very loose and turney, which is great, but I wouldn't take it to Jaws!

Robin, thanks. I know Lano is not the only one, but I just like to call those photos "Lano's shot"...

Meesh, unfortunately yesterday's workout wasn't a good thing for my rib. I should have rested and that's all I'm gonna do until it gets better.
Glad you like big blue... I like the definition of the giant fish.
Different styles, different tastes...
I like boards that are more directional in the turns... like that magic yellow one that Michi landed you last summer.
Gimme a call next time you go, maybe I can come and take photos...

Well! Cammar, you have excelled! That beginner was great, he actually did quite well dont you think? Did he catch any of the sets? What was with the 'lady' on the stand up? Crikey! Should be laws against that sort of thing.

Looks like good wind here in Adelaide tomorrow, 23-28knt SW/S, Saw on Seabreeze that Ben Severne was coming over for the weekend, from Western Australia, hope we can meet him....

Lano,

Keep the Lano shots coming....

Lovely pics (uh, the argentinian surfer again, isn't she ?), can leave the ass’n’ tids mag in the shop, hey, Cammar’s blog is good for the wallet. And if I have to think about something asexual these days, I'll remember the second part of the video. Dam’it!
Reeeel fun sunny day with 5.8 on the north sea today!
GP, if you should rest, you should rest, not write about that you should.
Have a nice one, guys!

Frankenrabiator, thanks for the links.

Lano, I got plenty more Lano shots yesterday... stay tuned.

Chris, this time I will have to rest. Which is so difficult here that I'm thinking to a trip to Italy...

Giampaolo,
I've been reading your posts regulary since last June. I will be in Maui from 3/16 to 3/24 and would like a recommendation for windsurfing lessons for myself(43), my son(18) and my brother(40). We are beginners, however I have 7.0 Gaastra Matrix/Bic Techno2 rig that I've taken out a few times. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Rusty DeShazo

Hey Paolo, I got a replacement for that helmet cam finally, and it works pretty good. I have a long boring video of a session today at Kanaha on the Jimmy Lewis 11'7" and a Superfreak 7.0. I'll edit it down and post it on my blog so you can see the video quality--which is actually pretty good.

Couldn't get the audio to work, but that might be a blessing. My language isn't PG or perhaps even normal XXX when I blow yet another jibe.

I have, however, found a fairly reliable way for me to jibe big longboards--a clew first slow jibe. Not pretty, but what have I done recently that was (except for bringing my lovely wife to the beach).

You've got to try this big Jimmy Lewis in the waves. It's so cool.

I watched the video after I commented. I've seen that lady around for about a month. I've never seen anyone else rest their paddle on the board, I think she's catching her breath or something. Anyway, it's a tribute to the stability of the Laird board.

The guy that kept falling in was holding his paddle backwards! It's pretty hard to paddle like that.

That wasn't my kayak--mine are trimarans and pretty recognizable, there's a picture here. No idea what that was.

Bill,

defenitely that Laird one must be a stable board. I'd like to try it...
I think we all have done the mistake of the paddle backwards the first time (unless you are a canoe paddler)... it's harder but it won't influence your balance...
Looking forward to seeing the videos.
