Bhutan's happiness formula

If you live in a western country, you want to check this out (thanks Sharon): http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/4782636.stm

Bhutan just entered the list of countries I'd like to visit. I don't know if I'm gonna make it though. I don't think the surf is good over there...

"Bhutan has even banned plastic bags and tobacco on the grounds that they make the country less happy. The one set of traffic lights Bhutan ever had was on this junction. But people found them frustrating, so they went back to a human being."

I have a moment of bliss everytime I read this!

Instead I almost throw up every time I drive by the Maui landfill and see all those plastic bags hanging on the trees...
And even worse than that, every time I shop at WHATEVER-mart and they give me 5 plastic bags for my 11 items...
Every single time, I give 4 of them back to the cashier and tell him/her:"have you driven to the landfill lately? That's where these plastic bags will end up..."
What a fucked up world we created... did I say that already?

PS. Just dropped a message of complaints at the wal-mart website. I feel quite Michael Mooreish...
