Well, the 'sunny side up' post gets post-poned again. I put it up this morning but I took a bunch of pics in the afternoon and here they are.
I picked four shots for the main page and a clear dominating sailor (I watched from 4:50 to 5:30): Browsinho. As you will see from the slide below, he was all over the place. Pretty much a goiter or an aerial or a top turn taka on every wave he was on. Some he didn't land of course, but I was quite impressed by the confidence he showed in all those numerous attempts.
Victor Fernandez was the other North sailor on fire. You hardly see anyone with North sails on Maui. But it's spring break for the pros too. Their next contest is in June in Portugal and now they are all here for the photoshoots. Supercrowded, but taking photos is a pleasure.
Well, the twin fin are back after so many years... why not the asymmetrical boards? Mark Angulo sailed one while insisting in his crazy 'Mutant' move.
Thomas Traversa did good too.
And here's the slide. The other sailors other the ones above are Eyal on the Fire and an unidentified one on the Goya.
Hey, today is the first day of spring and I'm not even pouty 'coz I have an escape plan... :) :) :)

So what's up with that "you hardly see anyone with North sails on Maui"? Just curious. I love my quiver of North sails (Ices from 3.7 to 5.3, and a 5.9 Duke): nice power, very direct without being too twitchy, light but rugged. Nice looking, too. I like them better than anything I've rented, on Maui or elsewhere. Well, I like the Hot Sails "Smack" a lot, too. I must just have some sorta Euro-trash thing going on. :-)
maybe next event is not Portugal, as we are at the end of march and the event is still "to be confirmed" so... maybe not, but we should start thinking Pozo is the next wave event

Scott,
I think it has to do with the fact that they're not a Maui based brand. As long as I know, there is one shop that sells them. But I guess most people feels like buying locally developed sails either to support local economy or to have the possibility of asking the designer in person or a top rider at the beach how to rig the sail correctly and stuff like this...
Dani,
one day I was sitting next to Victor in the lineup and I asked him when the next event was and he said Guincho. Don't know if that means that it's confirmed...
BTW, I could have asked a more direct question, such as:"so, when are all you guys out of here again?", but I thought it would have sounded a bit unfriendly...
It's so crowded that I don't think I'll sail Hookipa for the next couple of months. But, as I said, it's photographer's heaven.
Mark has been back for a while now. Sure it's great to see him back ripping. He's higly entertaining.
NOOOOO!! Don't say winter is over. People keep saying that to me and I just wont except it yet. Mother nature needs to make up for that December we had. April will be good !!!
Dave
We all hope that April will be good, of course. I'd be happy if March had a better end than this summertime like conditions, for a start.
But winter IS over. Those gloomy, cold, big waves, light wind days at Lowers. Not to mention the surf sessions there...
That's what I mean by winter. No amount of great head to logo high at Hookipa will make up for that.
But they will be back in a year. Try to stay healthy and fit.
My foot is nearly healed, winter must be nearly over.
