New large long period NW swell picked up solid at the buoys. Below are the maps of December 1 though 5 that show the fetch that generated it. Home guess for Hookipa is double to triple overhead.

Hookipa yesterday mid day.

This screenshot of the Pipeline webcam at sunset illustrates the grandiosity of the start of a long period distantly generated NW swell with no other swells in the water. The consistency is low and between sets the water has time to settle so that when the next set comes it looks like this: clean lines with no other energy in between them (Waimea was ready 5ft 18s). It has happened twice in the last week and it was great to experience that also in Maui.

New long period NW swell picked up at the NW buoys and is moving down the island chain. Below are the maps of November 28 through 30 that show the fetch that generated it. It should start showing locally only in the afternoon and mostly up the coast towards Hookipa. Home guess for Hookipa is waist to belly high in the morning, rising to possibly head high in the late afternoon with maybe some overhead sets at sunset.

Extremely small very long period SW energy at Barbers. Below is the map of November 24 that shows the fetch that generated it. It was just this one day, then it moved to the other side of New Zealand. Probably won't be noticeable in the water until tomorrow when Surfline calls for 0.9ft 18s, so still not much at all. Check the Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
