7am hookipa has inconsistent sets up to head and a half and it's pretty gorgeous.

Hookipa yesterday morning.

4am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.5ft @ 13s from 190° (S)

Small southerly energy at Barbers. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW101
6ft @ 15s from 330° (NW)

Hanalei
3.2ft @ 17s from 324° (NW)

Waimea

3.4ft @ 9s from 348° (NNW)
2.5ft @ 16s from 319° (NW)

New long period NW swell is rising at the upstream buoys. Here's how Pat Caldwell starts his  description of the evolution of the fetch:
The next event is associated with a low-pressure system that tracked from Japan 10/26 to a position north of Hawaii near 50N, 160W 10/29. This will give a spread of wave direction within 305-360 degrees with largest surf expected from 315-360 degrees. The wave generation is explained in three parts... you can read the rest on his page if interested. Or you can just look at the fetch in below's collage of Oct 26 through 30. I would recommend both.

Below are the graphs of NW101 and Hanalei together with the Surfine forecast. The red dotted line is my prediction of how the swell will rise locally. Probably starting with 1-2ft 17s at dawn and up to around 5ft 15s at sunset.

Home guess for Hookipa is head to head and half (still 9s NNW energy in the water) with size rising to double plus throughout the day.

This video could have been a lot shorter, but I dedicate it to all the weirdos like me that like detailed foil review analysis. :)

4am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.4ft @ 13s from 195° (SSW)

Small SSW energy at Barbers. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
Hanalei

4.8ft @ 9s from 352° (N)
4ft @ 11s from 347° (NNW)

Waimea

4.9ft @ 11s from 350° (N)
3.6ft @ 9s from 351° (N)

It's the start of a wintery four days of no wind and clean waves. Today they're going to be relatively small (home guess for Hookipa still head to occasionally head and a half), but there have been fetch after fetch and tomorrow they should come up to 7-8ft 15s.

Kai Lenny's latest vlog.

This is my new SUP foiling board. Been waiting for a board like this for quite a long time until one day I sat in front of Andres Martinez (Ding King/Maui Resin Designs) computer and we designed it together. I tested it yesterday and was blown away by its performance. 5.2x28.5x110L and 10.3 pounds! Big thanks also to Dave Kalama who designed my two previous boards, there's a lot of Dave's ideas in it.

One day a new board to try, the next day a new foil. Yesterday at sunset I was contemplating the fabulous shape of this Armstrong HA1325 that my favorite drug dealer just let me borrow and how it will ride, when a massive Iwa bird flew across the sky in total magnificence and showed me the way.

3am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
2.4ft @ 13s from 197° (SSW)

Medium period SSW energy at Barbers. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

Waimea

5.1ft @ 9s from 342° (NNW)
4.4ft @ 13s from 345° (NNW)

Pretty solid NNW energies at the upstream buoys. Home guess for Hookipa is around head and a half or more and clean.

Wednesday 10 27 21 morning call

Hookipa yesterday. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this album.

I got completely humiliated yesterday morning at Hookipa with a zero wave count (and a massive duck dive count). The last set I got caught by was called 8 feet by Charlie Smith. If you know what that means, you know it's big. I went straight to Paia Bay with one word in mind and I ended up catching a wave that I would rank among my top 10 waves ever there!

5-6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.4ft @ 15s from 196° (SSW)

New small long period SSW energy at Barbers. Below are the maps of Oct 18 thorugh 22 that show the fetch that generated it. What we're getting is mostly thanks to the angular spreading.

Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW101

3.6ft @ 10s from 7° (N)
2.9ft @ 8s from 73° (ENE)
2.2ft @ 14s from 328° (NW)

Hanalei

4.4ft @ 11s from 355° (N)
2.5ft @ 9s from 359° (N)
2.3ft @ 8s from 25° (NNE)
1.5ft @ 18s from 353° (N)

Waimea

4.1ft @ 13s from 359° (N)
3.6ft @ 10s from 356° (N)

Without Pauwela and with all these swells with bigger energy to our east, I've been doing the home guesses on the conservative side. Which is another way of saying that they were smaller than what it really was. One thing for sure: no shortage of waves on the north shore any time soon. This is from this NOAA page:
The recent moderate size, medium period north swell will be slowly declining through the day. Today's north surf heights will only subtly lower as an overlapping small, but slightly longer period, northwest swell fills in through tonight. A slightly larger, shorter period north northwest swell will arrive Thursday, peak Thursday night into early Friday then fall over the weekend. A large northwest swell is timed to reach the island chain Saturday night and peak Sunday. This swell will increase early week surf heights to above High Surf Advisory thresholds, possibly as high as low-end High Surf Warning levels. Looking further out to next week, a potentially even larger swell is possible Monday night into Tuesday

Surf's up and gonna stay up. Home guess for Hookipa is around head to head and a half and clean conditions.

Tuesday 10 26 21 morning call

Hookipa yesterday. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this gallery.

Late October usually provides epic windsurfing conditions, but this October has been particularly good with several epic days like this. Levi Siver laying it down.

Identifying the Young brothers has become more and more difficult. This looks like Levi to me.

It's easier with the Lenny's, but only because Ridge doesn't have all his boards painted blue and red like Kai.

Rudy Castorina.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion
.

South shore
No southerly energy at Barbers, but that's also because it's overshadowed by the NW wrap. So please check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW101
5.7ft @ 12s from 360° (N)

N
8.4ft @ 14s from 346° (NNW)

Hanalei
4.7ft @ 13s from 344° (NNW)

Waimea
6.6ft @ 13s from 346° (NNW)

Kaneohe Bay
2.9ft @ 7s from 75° (ENE)

NNW still pumping at the upstream buoys (specially the N one), but it should start tapering down throughout the day. Home guess for Hookipa is head and a half to double and clean conditions in the early morning thanks to the lack of wind, which today should start blowing around 9-10.
