Yet another WNW pulse picked is picking up at the buoys. Below is the graph of the NW101 buoy, showing it in green. Half the size of the previous one, but still pretty solid. The Pacioos forecast below shows it picking up locally in the afternoon around 6ft 16s. Home guess for Hookipa is head and a half growing to double throughout the day.

NW swell peaked yesterday and it should be on the decline all day. That means not extra large anymore, but still fairly large. Home guess for Hookipa is for double overhead plus.

Kanaha yesterday. I didn't miss the wind one bit during this fantastic three weeks of epic glassy waves we just had, but I also had a lot of fun in my light wind wave wingfoiling session yesterday. Do all disciplines, and you're always happy in Maui.

New WNW swell picked up at the outer buoys much bigger than predicted, reaching 20ft 16s at the NW101 yesterday evening. As a consequence, most of the north shore will be too big, seek for sheltered places.

I heard rumors of a Redbull event at Jaws. Ladies only, mixed with the other surfers in the lineup, I doubt there will be a streaming, as I didn't find anything about it on the Redbull TV website.

New WNW swell is at the NW buoy, with good size but a weirdly short period. Below are the maps of Jan 18 through 20 that show the fetch that generated it.

This is the Surfline forecast for the next two days. As you can see, the swell should start with a much longer period than what the NW buoy is showing. It could be a case of the shorter period energy generated closer to the buoy arriving at the buoy earlier than the longer period energy generated further away. In other words, there might be 2-3 feet 18-20s laying underneath those almost 10ft 12s.

Either way, the arrival of this swell in Maui should only be noticeable in the late afternoon, before peaking at warning levels tomorrow morning. Based on the Waimea (at least this one is back) reading, the home guess for Hookipa in the morning is around head to head and a third and clean.

This ship with a balloon tethered to it and an airplane circling around has been puzzling the north shore residents for a couple of days. Kinda fun to listen to the many wild guesses of what they're doing.

WNW declined at the NW buoys and went even more west. Hanalei still reads similar numbers to yesterday, so the decline might be felt later in the day locally. Home guess for Hookipa is for head to head and a half and possibly even more inconsistent than yesterday because of the westerly direction (if we believe the NW buoys direction).

New pretty solid WNW swell is at the buoys. Below are the maps of Jan 14 through 19 that show the fetch that originated it. Without Pauwela, the home guess for Hookipa is particularly dicey in these cases. Probably around head and a half in the sets, which won't be particularly consistent. Smaller sizes in the Kahului area due to the westerly direction.
