Saturday 1 187 20 morning call

I finally took some photos yesterday (foiling at Thousand Peaks), but they can't compete with this shot of Mundaka by Oscar Martinez that I found on this article on Surfline. Their "good to epic" series is always worth a read.

5am significant buoy readings and discussion
South shore
Barbers
0.6ft @ 20s from 223° (SW)

That's the Cloudreak swell at Barbers. The Lahaina webcam seems to shows a mix of small long period waves from it and some shorter period ones from the north wrap.

North shore
NW001
7.9ft @ 12s from 2° (N)
6.3ft @ 10s from 20° (NNE)
4.1ft @ 8s from 27° (NNE)

Waimea
8.6ft @ 12s from 318° (NW)
5ft @ 10s from 330° (NW)

Pauwela
9.2ft @ 12s from 337° (NNW)
6.3ft @ 9s from 9° (N)

The new northerly swell has a 12s component from 337 (318 at Waimea, so it might be a bit more west than 337) and a 9s component from 9 degrees. Plenty waves on tap on the north shore, but they should be pretty stormy because of the proximity of the fetch (and related simultaneous arrival of different periods) and the wind on it (13mph in Kahului at 6.30am). The west side and a north shore sheltered place would offer better conditions than an non sheltered one like Hookipa. This last one will be the biggest though, the waves should be plenty overhead there.

Kahului Tides
High Tide     High Tide     Low Tide     Low Tide       Sunrise   Sunset
8:09a  +1.5  11:51p  +1.9   3:19a  +1.2   3:53p  +0.1    7:07a   6:09p

North Pacific has a newly formed W fetch off Japan and a local NNE windswell one.

A storm east of Fiji offers a tiny fetch in the South Pacific.

Morning sky. The front has passed and left some cold air behind.
