Sunday 1 19 20 morning call

Lots of foilers (local and visiting) at the harbor yesterday. The discipline of pumping back out is taking over the one of riding the waves for some riders (in terms of the equipment they choose). As a result, the traffic is getting a little busier. Got to look around 360 degrees, also because the foils are quiet.

Beautiful light/cloud/rain/everything.

Jimmie Hepp took some photos at Honolua and put them in this album. That's how crowded the bay gets on a weekend day with a moderate size swell.

4-5am significant buoy readings and discussion
South shore
Barbers
1.5ft @ 16s from 213° (SW)

That's still the Cloudbreak swell at Barbers, the Lahaina webcam shows a mix of small long period S swell and some leftover N wrap.

North shore
NW001
5.0ft @ 10s from 19° (NNE)
5.0ft @ 12s from 345° (NNW)

Waimea
5.3ft @ 11s from 331° (NNW)

Pauwela
5.1ft @ 9s from 8° (N)
4.5ft @ 12s from 342° (NNW)
3.5ft @ 5s from 42° (NE)
2.6ft @ 11s from 354° (N)

Mix of swells at Pauwela, that (together with the wind) will make for disorganized breaking patterns at Hookipa, better shapes will be found in sheltered spots on the north shore or on the west side.

Below are the graphs of NW001 and Pauwela together with the Surfline forecast. As you can see from the first two, all the swells are trending down at the moment. Tomorrow there should be an increase that Surfline has at a whooping 10ft 18s from 339. They do say that "the models are likely too hot right now".

Below is the collage of the maps of the 16, 17 and 18. The fetch of tomorrow's swell is the one with the angular spreading. Imo, the models are running WAY too hot for tomorrow, I think it'll be much smaller than what they predict, but with the angular spreading you never know until it gets here. Which doesn't seem to be today anyway, so we'll see what the buoys show tomorrow morning.

Wind map at noon

Kahului Tides
High Tide     High Tide     Low Tide     Low Tide       Sunrise   Sunset
9:13a  +1.3                        6:00a  +1.2   4:46p  -0.1    7:07a   6:10p

North Pacific has a WNW fetch, an angular spreading NNW one (forgot to circle it in blue yesterday) and a small NE windswell fetch.

South Pacific has a weak S fetch.
