Friday 7 12 24 morning call

Clement Colmas, Gabi and Kane outside of Hookipa yesterday. The Paddle Imua race on Sunday will start the triple crown of downwind races (the others being M2M and M2O). The downwind foils have improved a lot since last year and, conditions permitting, there will likely be new record times.

Talking about new downwind foils, this is a short clip that JDFollowCam shot of me doing a Foil Drive assisted SUP foiling run on an F-One EagleX 700.

The buoys show the start of a long period swell from around 200-210. Below are the maps of July 5 through 9 that show the fetch that generated it. As you can see, it became pretty strong and well positioned around the 7th and that should mean a pretty big swell on Sunday (Surfline calls for 4ft 18s from 190 for that afternoon: possible big waves at Maalaea).

Check the Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

Windswell is rising. Home guess for Hookipa is around belly to chest high with occasionally bigger sets.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
