Very small southerly energy at the buoys. Both buoys show the beginning of a new long period swell. Below are the maps of August 18 to 20 that show the fetch that generated it. Surfline calls for 2.2ft 16s by the end of the day.

Check the Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

No photos from yesterday, I found this image that I grabbed somewhere some time ago and saved it as "by Ren McGann".

Very small southerly energy at the buoys and nothing on the webcam. It is possible that Hone will send waves from the south for a limited amount of time. No idea of what that time window will be, could be during the night. Check the Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

Very high easterly windswell at Pauwela thanks to the increased winds due to Hone's passage to our south. Home guess for Hookipa is around waist high to shoulder high with occasionally bigger sets. MUCH bigger on eastern exposures.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

I posted SE and Hilo to show how big the easterly energy is closer to the approaching storm. Home guess for Hookipa is around waist to chest high with occasionally bigger sets. Much bigger on eastern exposures, as the Waiehu webcam shows. Should be increasing all day.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

      • 1.3ft

Old south swell almost disappeared at the buoys, while Barbers shows new 17s energy that likely comes from the fetch south of New Zealand that happened on the 15th (see map below). It was a one day fetch, so not much to be expected by it.

      Check the
Kiheiwebcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

NW swell peaked yesterday but will linger in our waters also today. Home guess for the size of the sets at Hookipa is chest to head high with occasionally bigger ones.
