After a good start, an even better continuation...

Update: check this video from Wednesday with Levi and Glenn in Makani's last post.

------------------------------------------------------------------

For once, a photoless post.

The thing is that today I sailed 4 hours straigth and couldn't be bothered to take photos... it was just too much fun out there! And yesterday too!!

After the two weeks ago great start of the season with those five days of wave sailing in a row, it seems that the continuation is not too shabby either.

What I liked about the first swell, was the size: perfect up to head high not too dangerous.
This other north one, instead, is up to logo high in the big sets and there have been plenty people on the rocks. I went very close a couple of times. Actually my board did go after disconnecting from the sail under a big wave.
I was suprised how easy it was to swim back to shore with the sail... got to know how the current works!

But what I like about this swell is the consistency of the waves. I'm on the wave with someone else? No problem, I'll leave it to him... there's another wave just 10 seconds behind. And another one behind, and another one behind...

Also, the lack of most pros (competing at Sylt) and the extended time frame of sailability (today I think it was 12 to 5.30), makes for not too crowded conditions... lovely!
The smile of Levi when he got out of the water after a *sick* aerial 360 off the lip, makes me guess he's not missing the North Sea too much...

WAIT!!!!!!
I swear I had completely forgot about that photo I took during a quick break. Let me go get the camera... hang on you guys, I think it's worth it.

Here we go. How's that as a shot from the car? I just wanted to take a sip of water... from the moment I saw it to when I pushed the button it was a nanosecond!

you are a stalker, im sure there are laws against photographing and publishing un-consented shots of women/girls at beach. im certain these people dont go to the beach to have their privacy invaded and have snaps taken of them bending over etc and have them posted on the net and ogled at by others.

Think deeper annon. They make girl's board shorts should someone choose to wear them. They make bikinis should someone choose to wear them. Make your choice and live by it, others are...

GP as always, great pictures of everything; beach pics, action pics, landscape pics, even a couple of politcal pics a while ago. Love your blog!

Yeah, you are a stalker! Now go out and stalk some more!! ;)

Greets from a freezing cold Holland, missing Maui like crazy!

Hi GP,
Any thoughs about kitesurfer Sebastian Catelan new speed record? He did 50.26 knots, breaking the elusive 50 knot barrier.
Cheers,
Marcos

That lady has the nicest view you've captured so far.
Now to the woman upset about the butt shots, I want to borrow a quote from Jim Carrey in the movie "Liar, Liar". Max says, "My teacher tells me real beauty's on the inside." His dad says, "That's just something ugly people say."
The Reef Company has sold millions of sandals with ads featuring something us guys like and admire. If she didn't want people looking at her beauty why would she wear something revealing. Sorry it annoys you, but you are in a small minority group on this one.

obviously... I liked pics, any pics. You can't see her face so... where's the problem?

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Marcos, that's quite impressive. I couldn't find any news/videos on the internet other than this
.
Looks like kitesurfers are even worse than windsurfers in publicizing their sport...

Talking about which, the PWA event in Sylt saw Victor Fernandez winning the wave riding contest, but Kaui Seadi winning his third world title
.
Now, can a world title made by only three contests can be called a world title?
And can wave riding in those horrible onshore conditions be called wave riding?
Check it out yourself: these are the hightlights of the heat between Kauli and Campello.
And now watch again Levi and Glenn...

well it's sad indeed that they had only 3 contests for waves this year. Still, I think is a very legitimate world title. They do one contest every 4 years for the football (soccer) world title and it works.
Hopefully next year they will recover the stops in Scotland, Guincho (portugal), Ibiraquera in Brazil and Maui!
In regards of the crappy conditions, the semis and final were done in much better wind and waves than the seadi-campello heat you posted. Not classic hookipa but hard core euro wave indeed. If the money is there, thousands of fans watching, what is wrong about it?
And also they did Cabo Verde with perfect waves. Otherwise Kauli wouldn't not be the champ, as Victor is unbeatable in "euro wave" contests.
Start helping the organizers of the Aloha to run the PWA event in 2009!

Any idea why Levi wasn't competing at Sylt? Other than good sense...

stalker? i think not, Taking photos in public is not stalking. G's photos i have noticed usually ( I havent found one) do not show the face, so its an anonymous photo and a tastefull act i would say. North american society unlike europe seems to have big hangups with nudity. In europe nudity is everywhere and as such its no big deal.
Take Violence in TV. In europe banned and strictly monitored. North America Tv full of gore, live ( COPS), and otherwise like CSI miami new york whatever.Gory stuff at 700 pm for the kids to see, now thats sick, sicker then a real stalker.
I remember in high school 1985, liking a girl from another school. hangin out where she worked trying to meet her, even following her home.Biking by her place on my ten speed LOL, seeing if she was in or out, going to her school dance , maybe id see her.By yesteryears standards: nothing wrong, today 'certified stalker". AND so was every other guy i knew!

yup, that's one problem with the law--it's justice to punish an act regardless of it's innocence. The converse is also true, you can't punish a lawful act regardless of how evil the intent might be. It would be nice if our lawmakers paid more attention to that.

Violence in american media is pornographic. The violence in european films is infinitely more effective and upsetting. I still am haunted by by a French movie I saw ten years ago.
