Thursday 1 25 18 morning call

First of all, massive thanks to blog reader Roy for his donation.

A longboard and a windsurf session for me yesterday. The first one was at Thousand Peaks that had fun waist high waves like the empty one below.

Sorry if I forgot to post a beach update, but I got distracted by the good company.

The windsurfing session was at Hookipa where the waves were of a fun size that allowed me to aim for the lip at each single wave I caught. That didn't apply to Levi, meaning he would do 360's like that no matter what size. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this gallery.

5am significant buoy readings
South shore

No indication of southerly energy at the buoys, the Surfline forecast calls for 1.4f 11s.

North shore
NW101
2.5ft @ 12s from 301° (WNW)

Waimea
2ft @ 13s from 338° (NNW)

Pauwela
6.4ft @ 10s from 86° (E)
4.6ft @ 6s from 81° (E)
2.3ft @ 14s from 358° (N)

Easterly 10s period swell still up, while the northerly energy is down to 2.3f 14s. Should be a fun size mix at Hookipa. Stay tuned for a beach report.

Below is the collage of the maps of Jan 21,22,23 and 24 (you can click on the photo to enlarge it).
The fetch from which we're going to receive the most energy in the next few days is the one straight north of us. Small size (peaking at 3f 11s tomorrow), but lovely direction and lack of winds starting tomorrow.

Wind map at noon shows light easterly trades.

North Pacific shows a west and an east fetches.

Very distant southerly fetch in the South Pacific. 1f 14s predicted by Surfline in 9 days (Saturday Feb 3).

Morning sky.
