Thursday 8 31 23 morning call

Hookipa yesterday.

JDFollowCam caught Sam Reynolds using him pocket wing to take off on a downwinder. I'm super excited to test it, as it won't require a barracuda style board.

NW energy pretty much gone, now it's back to the easterly windswell which should be trending up for the rest of the week as a result of strengthening trades. Home guess for Hookipa is around waist high.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

Lanai shows decent long period energy from 210. Below are the maps of August 21 and 22 that show the fetch that generated it.

Check the Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

Small NW swell is at the upstream buoys (I posted the fetch maps yesterday). Judging from the decline in size as you move down the chain of islands, I don't think Maui will get much (Pauwela would help, of course), or at least not until sunset. Home guess for Hookipa is waist high in the morning, with a possible increase throughout the day.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

Mokapu shows the usual easterly windswell while one of the NW buoys shows signs of what could be the start of a small NW swell that will fill in locally tomorrow for a couple of days (Surfline calls for 2.5ft 12s tomorrow evening). Below are the maps of August 24 though 26 that show the small fetch that generated it. Home guess for Hookipa today is knee to waist high.
