Tuesday 11 19 19 morning call

With a bit of local knowledge and a few toys in the car, Maui always has something to offer. Yesterday I did: SUP foiling, a surf guide in an uncrowded waist to shoulder high spot, wave windfoiling. All done by 1pm.

Italian Bali based photog Liquid Barrel is in Oahu, here's a gem with the host J.O.B.

And since we're talking Pipe, here's Maui ripper Eric Brooks absolutely charging. Can't share this Facebook video, but here's the start of the barrel. You can see how deep she is going to get.

Three seconds of disappearance later, she was still travelling and got nailed at the end. Wipeout looked gnarly, but "it wasn't too bad" she commented. I'm really impressed by this young lady. I mean, you're a 12 years old girl and not only you paddle out at Pipe in November (with all the pros training for the Masters and a peak crowd), but you also catch a wave and you get totally barreled!

I wonder if she'll be back for this Hi-Tech organized surf contest. Hookipa 23-24 November.

4am significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
1.5ft @ 12s from 204° (SSW)

That's the only marginal southerly energy reading the buoys show. It should equate to very small waves, check the Lahaina webcam if interested

North shore
NW101
6ft @ 11s from 338° (NNW)

Waimea
4.5ft @ 14s from 328° (NW)
4.1ft @ 8s from 359° (N)

Pauwela
6.8ft @ 9s from 54° (ENE)
3.9ft @ 14s from 333° (NNW)

New moderate NNW pulse is at the buoys, here's how Pat Caldwell describes the evolution of the fetch:
The reinforcement is expected from a low pressure system that tracked east along 45N, crossing the Date Line Friday night with gales to severe gales over the 315-330 degree band. The winds weakened to marginal gales as it passed north of Hawaii Saturday night.
NOAA NW buoys 51001 and 51101 11/18 in the morning show the 14-17s energy from this source on the rise. This moderate period event is predicted to fill in locally late Monday afternoon. It will likely peak pre-dawn Tuesday from 315-330 degrees and then slowly decline into Wednesday from 315-340 degrees as a new long- period event arrives.

Below are the maps of Nov 15, 16 and 17 that will help follow.

Rising 4ft 14s should make for well overhead waves at Hookipa, specially considering the almost 7ft 9s from 54 on top of it. I should be able to post a beach report before 7am.

Wind map at noon.

The 2pm one looks very different. If you're interested in wind related sports (including and especially surfing!), you should check each single hour of that model. Link n. -2.

Kahului Tides
High Tide     High Tide     Low Tide     Low Tide       Sunrise   Sunset
8:39a  +2.3   9:23p  +0.9   4:55p  +0.7                      6:40a   5:46p

North Pacific as the strong NW fetch we saw yesterday (9ft 15s from 314 on Thursday night predicted by Surfline) and a windswell fetch.

A small fetch in the South Pacific of which we could get some angular spreading. Low confidence on this one.

Morning sky. I keep seeing a counter clockwise rotation.
