New WNW swell is at the buoys, much smaller than the many previous ones that arrived since the beginning of the year. Home guess for Hookipa is around head high, much smaller down the coast towards Kahului.

New NW swell shows pretty solid at Hanalei and should be in our waters too. Home guess for Hookipa is double overhead plus and surfable only by the pros. More manageable in the Kahului area and sheltered spots. Lack of wind continues.

A Tsunami advisory is in effect, due to the Tonga explosion. Below is what was measured at various Hawaii location from this website. At 2.30am in Kahului 2.7ft @ 20min were measured. Seems like a lot of water.

Elevated WNW-NW energy continues at the buoys, although in a downward trend. The Pacioos forecast below has not been updated and yesterday I was looking at the wrong day (sorry about that).
Below is the Surfline forecast which shows a new pulse predicted to pick up during the afternoon and peak tomorrow morning at 8.5ft 13s. Home call for Hookipa is for a more maneagle head and a half size.

Friday 1 14 21 morning call

Hookipa at sunset.

Oahu foiler Keola was at the harbor yesterday. Gonna use these pictures to illustrate the prone foiling pop up technique called "the tripode". He rode this whole wave like this, just because he can and it's probably fun.

At the end of it, he felt like popping up and putting his feet in the footstraps, so he could pump back out. Back foot goes in first.

This looks like the toughest part. Is your body flexible enough to allow the front foot to go in the strap without leaving the hands off the rails?

His obviously is.

And then he can do this.Tiny board, probably less than 20 liters. When sitting on it, his deltoids were barely out of the water.

Elevated WNW-NW energy continues at the buoys. Another day of fairly big waves, even though the Pacioos forecast below has a bit of a dip for this morning,  before picking up again in the afternoon. Hookipa should be smaller than yesterday but still well overhead in the sets. Wind should be favorable again.

Elevated WNW to NW energy continues at the buoys. The collage below is of the maps of Jan 9 through 12 and shows no shortage of NW fetches. Home guess for Hookipa is double overhead. The lack of wind should make for relatively clean conditions, even though the many overlapping energies might interfere with the breaking patterns.
