Mark Angulo's Mutant

Last week I asked Mark Angulo a few questions:
GP: "Mark, how many times have you tried your Mutant?"
Mark: "Thousands..."
GP: "How many times have you landed it?"
Mark: "Five, two of which perfectly clean"
GP: "Has anyone caught one of them on video?"
Mark: "No, not yet."

Well, unless something changed in the meantime, here's the first video ever of a successful Mutant.
PS: Well, clearly not after seen the one in the comments.

As you can see also from the photo below, it's definitely a peculiar move, in which Mark gets pretty much vertical upside down.
As you can also see from the slideshow below, the new generation of acrobatic sailors are not afraid of throwing rotations off the lip, but so far I've never seen anyone else trying a Mutant. Who knows, it might be forever a Mark Angulo's unique signature move...

Many thanks to Nico Drasimino who filmed it and sent it to me. Here he is in a shot of his own new personal move. Nico, what's the name of that one?
I also feel like linking once again Nico's mega backloop youtube clip. Respect.

Here's the slideshow from yesterday. Beautiful sunny day, waves, 45 sailors in the water, helicopters, four water photographers, way too crowded for me, but a hell lot of fun taking photos. Victor was all about forwards off the lip and just about everyone was going off big time. Enjoy the show.

There is a great old video called "The Flyin Hawaiians" which Angulo does a similar feat. It is like 15 years ago and it is the only time I have seen the move.

Just confirmed Angulo does this move in a 1990 video The Flying Hawaiians

If I saw that move from the beach, I might think it was a 360. Nat Gill does his 360s like that. The first mutants that Mark was doing had a much different rotation (more vertical) than this one. This is more of a tweaked 3 than anything new. But it's still insanely sick.

Looks like a Wymaroo off the Lip.

Well,
thanks for the flying hawaiian clip. That was enough to make me change the title of this post...

The Mutant, IMO, IS an aerial wave 360 off the lip. The difference is that is extremely tweaked and with arched back. Not so much so the one caught by Nico (maybe that's why Mark landed it...).
It would be interesting to have Mark describe it.

The first mutants Mark did were like a combination of a goiter and a 360. In the first part of the rotation, he threw the mast down and got upside down. But instead of rotating over the equipment (ie a normal goiter), he threw the rig over him like in a 360. ... The one caught on film here looks like just a tweaked 360. ... And the one from Flying Hawaiians is most definitely a 360, NOT a mutant. Many people do 360s like that (Levi, Nat Gill, Rush Randle, etc).

Looks like a Gu-Screw with a touch of push-loop body positioning in it. Cool move. Love how he lands on the have and planes away.
