Saturday 1 20 24 morning call

Hookipa yesterday morning.

Hookipa yesterday at sunset.

6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion. South shore

No southerly energy at Barbers, but plenty waves in Kihei again. Today we know it's the wrap of the westerly swell discussed below. Check the Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

NW101

      • 10.7ft
        , 15s, W 270º

NW001

  • 8.3ft
    , 15s, WNW 285º

Waimea

      • 4.1ft
        , 11s, NW 325º
      • 2.4ft
        , 18s, NW 310º
      • 1.2ft
        , 13s, NNW 335º

Pauwela

      • 3.7ft
        , 11s, NNW 340º
      • 1.5ft
        , 20s, NW 315º

The NW energies that gave us waves the past few days are now considerably down at the close by buoys, but a new long period WNW one is on the rise. Below are the maps of January 17 through 20 that indicate the fetch that generated it. I posted both NW001 and NW101 to show the different direction they registered (270 vs 285) and both are west enough to:
- give a significant wrap on the Kihei coast
- be shadowed on most of the north shore (Kahului more than Hookipa)
Home guess for Hookipa is around head high in the morning and very favorable winds and bigger sets in the afternoon.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
