Hookipa yesterday morning.
FishBowlDiaries posted an album of the mid day action at Lanes and The point.
Around 4pm there were only a few wingers out. Interesting how both these guys are regular and hold the wind with the left (front) hand.
6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion. South shore
North shore
NW101
- 8.9ft, 11s, WNW 295º
Waimea
- 6.8ft, 11s, NW 315º
Pauwela
- 4.7ft, 11s, NNW 335º
- 2.1ft, 4s, SSW 195º
I'm sure you noticed how consistent the WNW energy has been at the NW buoy. Below are the maps of January 25 through 20 that show that that will continue to be the case in the next few days. I went back all the way to the 15th and there was a west fetch every single day since then. Yes, that's unusual and due to how deep the jet stream is dipping in the westernen North Pacific giving us this prolonged regime of kona wind not necessarily associated with an approaching front. Home guess for Hookipa is around head to head and a half and more kona.
Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
