Tuesday 2 22 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday morning. Photo by Patrick Wardle.

It was a wonderful day of light wind winging at Kanaha.

This is Hookipa instead.

4am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers is mostly reading NW wrap and can't be used to detect small southerly energy. Check the Lahaina (the free website is working again)  and Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

Pauwela

2.5ft @ 11s from 340° (NNW)
1.1ft @ 16s from 309° (WNW)

The upstream buoys show two different energies from the NW quadrant. The longer period one (14-16s) comes from the fetch indicated by the black arrow in the collage of the maps of Feb 17 through 20 below. This one is not going to be particularly noticeable in Maui until tomorrow, as it started with a pretty west and relatively small fetch. The shorter period one (11-12s) likely comes from the small nearby fetch indicated by the red arrow. Luckily, Pauwela also still records a bit of 8s energy from a northerly direction, which will add to the (poor) mix and hopefully keep complete flatness at bay. Nonetheless, it's going to be a pretty small day on the north shore for the season. Home guess for Hookipa is for waist to chest high. Not sure about the quality, as it will rapidly deteriorate as strong easterly trades build throughout the day.
