doesn't get more creative than this...

Exactly one week ago I had a fantastic day of surfing.

The video below is made by clips taken in the morning session.
Then in the late afternoon, I went out again on my SUP (too tired to lay down paddle) and stayed out till dark thanks to an amazing full moon that rose just by sunset time.
Later on the same day, I gathered with some friends and we played some music with guitars and ukuleles.
I got intrigued by a chord progression of a song called "One night stand" and, not knowing at all the original, I played those four chords with my own rhythm, strumming and I even improvised some words.

My surfing, on a board that was snapped in two pieces and I put together all by myself, with a melody that I made and that I played and sang in a video that I filmed and edited... almost everything I can do is in this video! :)

All I hope is that you guys can get some of my stoke out of it...
Enjoy.

A few details.
1) the chord progression is: G Bm C Dm7. Actually the original had a Bm7 instead of a Bm, but my fingers are too fat for that...

2) fellow surfers, please note how many times I look left AND right when I paddle for my first wave. That is to make sure that I'm in the right place at the right time and to check what the wave is doing, but ALSO to make sure that no one else is going to paddle for that wave, so that I won't drop in on anybody.

Also, notice how often I check the inside to make sure I can avoid the surfers paddling out. When you surf, you need to have 360 degrees of awareness.
By having spotted way in advance the girl paddling out in front of me, I was able to decide my line, throw a decent (for my standards) cut back at sec. 22 and go around her without being a danger for her and without having her ruining my line.

3) if you want to learn how to nose ride, DO NOT imitate what I do on my second wave. Rather read what Dave Kalama says in this post on his blog...

Aloha.

PS. One field in which my creativity didn't sparkle, is DSLR photography.
I'm selling this Canon 20D with EF-S 18-55 lens with battery charger, manuals, original SW, extra book, extra dvd, extra case for $300. Email is on the right.

Definitely stoked. BTW - I'm convinced that DSLR cameras are not good for blog quality photos. The larger sensor and much more expensive lens are not helpful for pics of this resolution. You just have to crop and resize anyway. The panasonic FZ35 I've been using ($260) does a worthy job with an 18x optical zoom and an great anti-shake. I have no tri-pod yet my shots are rarely blurry at full zoom. It's all you need.

Hey, nice creativity!

Those chords are I III IV V in the key of G, you might find it interesting to dig into some theory on Keys and chord progressions might break all sorts of barriers in songwriting!

-but of course you don´t have to know theory to play music, just a bunch of hindsight explanations anyway. Keep making that music :)

Here is some of my music, a fellow musician, islander and waterman from far away..

Always a pleasure reading you blog!

think your getting way ahead of yourself with all the recent advice giving, who are you to start telling other surfers how to behave? get your surfing/windsurfing up to scratch first because no one likes a kook pretending to be a hotshot!

Ben,
totally agree. Blogging doesn't need sophisticated cameras.

Thanks Jo!

Rafn,
never been too much into jazz, but your music sound pretty damn good!

Dave,
who am I? I am a surfer/windsurfer who knows and respects the etiquette and does whatever he can to instruct other surfers/windsurfers who might not know it.
That same day I shot the clips I saw way too many drop ins, dangerous behaviors and etiquette violations.
I put a lot of time and passion into this blog trying to spread the stoke and divulge respect for the ocean and for the fellow surfers/windsurfers.
Surfing good and respecting the etiquette are two completely different things.

GP -

your advices are well received. The etiquette for Windsurfing post was actually very helpful for a lot of people it looks like. Don't stop!

The day you start giving advise on how to do a Rodeo Flip, I'll be worried. But you don't have to be Kelly Slater to learn and pass along some of the proper etiquette for Surfing/Windsurfing.

Yeah GP is opinionated and has sometimes unconventional thoughts about certain topics, but one thing he is not - is someone that considers himself a hot shot and someone that brags.

Keep it up GP.

Alex

Hey GP did anyone tell you that you sing like an angel?? (well sort of!!)

BTW You represent what windsurfing/surfing should be and Dave represents exactly what it shouldn't be!!Dave is the the antithesis of you!!

Keep it up GP...glad to see the quality of life index so high.

Ignore the hate....the world would be a much more sane place if we all looked around a bit for others...in the lineup and out.

Alex, W.O, Bob: thanks.

But I'm now realizing that I made a mistake by publishing that lovely comment, since it's driving the following comments!

Let's all ignore the hate and if you blog readers feel like writing a comment, I would appreciate if you would do so exclusively relating it to the post's content. Thanks.

PS. Hey Alex, next time I see you in the lineup, not only I will tell you how to do a rodeo flip, but I will show you one or two... ;)

lyrics...

met her out on the beach one day,
still remember what she smells like, yeah
had these eyes that could light up a room
and a voice thats so heavenly
took her in and we talked for a while
couldn't get past her sexy smile soo i,
so i......
gave her all of the sweet talk and charm
but i didn't wanna move to fast
asked her for her name and number
i've done this again and again
headed up to her house that evening
spent a night that was oh so pleasing
and now...and now...........

chorus:
fell in love with a one night stand
and i cant belive my heart
wasn't supposed to happen this way
usually im gone like the wind
trapped between a broken heart
and a girl who dont really care
i sit all alone and im in love with a one night stand

2:
lying awake at night
and wonder whats wrong with me
cuz i cant seem to shake it off
a feeling thast runs so deep
this never happened before
was always able to walk out the door
but now...but now........

chorus:
fell in love with a one night stand
and i cant belive my heart
wasn't supposed to happen this way
usually im gone like the wind
trapped between a broken heart
and a girl who dont really care
i sit all alone and im in love with a one night stand

sit all alone and im in love with a one night stand (3x)
