Hookipa yesterday afternoon.
3am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.6ft at 14s SSW 200º
1.1ft at 20s S 190º
Long period southerly swell shows 1.1ft 20s at Barbers. Below are the maps of May 18 through 22 that show the fetch that generated it, indicated with red arrows. The black arrows indicate the Tasman Sea fetch that generated the 14s energy from 200 degrees instead.
Below is the Surfline forecast. The swell seems to be a little under the prediction that was calling for 1.7ft 20s at 3am and that foresees a peak of 3.6ft 16s tomorrow.
Check the Lahaina and Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
Hanalei
3.5ft @ 9s from 343° (NNW)
Waimea
3.3ft @ 10s from 330° (NW)
Mokapu
2.6ft @ 5s from 82° (E)
1.2ft @ 12s from 95° (E)
Relatively short period NW energy is still at the buoys, but on a downward trend today and tomorrow before another small pulse arrives. Home guess for Hookipa is for belly to shoulder high.
Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: possibly over the ice sheet) from Windy.
