New NW swell on the rise, here's how Pat Caldwell describes the fetch and its evolution.
A low pressure tracked east along 45N from the Kuril Islands 11/15 and obtained storm-force over a compact fetch of 305-310 degrees on 11/16 in an area beyond 2200 nm away. The system continued on an easterly track with a weakening trend. Gales over the 305-320 degree band reached the Date Line 11/17. Near gales over the 320-340 degree band were closest to Hawaii about 1200 nm out 11/18. The system moved east of the Hawaii swell window 11/19.
Below is the collage of the maps of Nov 15, 16, 17 and 18. I will report from Hookipa around 8am.
South shore
SW
1.1ft @ 14s from 155° (SSE)
Lanai
1.4ft @ 15s from 272° (W)
1ft @ 11s from 177° (S)
Some signs of southerly energy at a couple of buoys, Caldwell calls for 1f 15s from the SW and yes there's occasional long period sets at Ala Moana in Oahu pictured below together with Pipeline which instead shows the waves from the NW.
Wind map at noon. Gonna get stronger by 3pm.
North Pacific still taking a deserved break after 10 days of NW to NNW swell generation and before starting to crank up again. The big NW swell of next week is predicted by Surfline to peak at 16f 16s from 318 on Tuesday Nov 27. I heard rumors of the WSL possibly running the Jaws contest. That would make sense I guess to take advantage of the fact that they're going to have plenty production crews already in Hawaii, but this swell is going to be bigger at Mavericks (the fetch will be more W to E oriented), so that's the one they should really run. 19f 15s predicted by Surfline there on Dec 1st.
South Pacific has a small/weak S fetch.
Morning sky.
