Meanwhile, on the other side of the channel, the Aloha Classic competitors put up a great show for the last 5 finals of the contest. My buddy Jeff Henderson pictured below won the Grand Masters category. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this gallery.
4am significant buoy readings
South shore
Lanai
1.7ft @ 11s from 238° (WSW)
The energy continues to be tiny on the south shore and that is no surprise. Another close to flat day.
North shore
NW101
4.4ft @ 12s from 314° (NW)
Hanalei
4.3ft @ 11s from 317° (NW)
Waimea
1.6ft @ 11s from 326° (NW)
1.5ft @ 14s from 312° (NW)
Pauwela
4.3ft @ 8s from 68° (ENE)
2.4ft @ 11s from 336° (NNW)
0.8ft @ 15s from 341° (NNW)
Difficult readings to interpret at the buoys today, as the periods are all over the place. I'm going to focus on Pauwela and state that, IMO, the 11s energy is what is left of the swell we had the past couple of days, while the 15s one is from a new swell that is predicted to pick up today. Similar situation at Waimea. The NW101 buoy didn't register the longer periods, but went up again in the 12s range. Most likely the waves will be pretty small (but finally clean!) in the morning at Hookipa and only increase in the afternoon. Below is the collage of the maps of Nov 3, 4 and 5 that shows the fetch that generated this new moderate NW pulse.
Wind map at noon.
North Pacific continues to under perform in this November start: nothing worth circling.
South Pacific has an ok fetch in the southern Tasman Sea.
Morning sky.
