Wednesday 11 7 18 morning call

A shortboard and a windfoiling session for me yesterday. During the last one, taking advantage of the presence of Jimmie Hepp, I got this shot at Lanes that made me wonder how many other windfoilers in the world are riding waves (I sure don't see many in Maui!). Turns out there's a bunch. Here's a nice article that classifies the windfoiling discipline into four different styles. I love the wave windfoiling videos and I also find the freestyle one pretty crazy.

The energy continues to be tiny on the south shore and that is no surprise. Another close to flat day.

North shore

Difficult readings to interpret at the buoys today, as the periods are all over the place. I'm going to focus on Pauwela and state that, IMO, the 11s energy is what is left of the swell we had the past couple of days, while the 15s one is from a new swell that is predicted to pick up today. Similar situation at Waimea. The NW101 buoy didn't register the longer periods, but went up again in the 12s range. Most likely the waves will be pretty small (but finally clean!) in the morning at Hookipa and only increase in the afternoon. Below is the collage of the maps of Nov 3, 4 and 5 that shows the fetch that generated this new moderate NW pulse.

North Pacific continues to under perform in this November start: nothing worth circling.


South Pacific has an ok fetch in the southern Tasman Sea.
