Monday 7 20 20 morning call

Yesterday there was the "unofficial" Paddle Imua downwinder. Not sure if there were any official winners, but Josh Bogle is always a winner, imo. No legs, no hands, he paddled on a prone paddleboard. Photo by Tomoko.

I did a mini SUP foiling downwinder (n.23) myself and set a new personal record of a 0.8 miles glide thanks to a Gofoil GL240 that I'm borrowing. A bit harder to take off than the Maliko 280, but faster and easier to pump and to follow the bumps once up. Still plenty to learn before I can go down in foil size.

4am significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
1.7ft @ 14s from 184° (S)

Southerly energy coming down, but that reading should still provide some fun ones on the Lahaina side. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
Unfortunately, an early look at 5.30am only shows inconsistent waist high waves, with very occasional bigger ones like this.

North shore
Pauwela
5.5ft @ 8s from 65° (ENE)

Windswell is up and the waves at Hookipa should be bigger than they have been. And they should get even bigger in a couple of days (check today's fetch below).

Wind map at noon
(the other ones can be found at link n.-2 of GP's meteo websites list in the right column).

Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: apparent direct aim, but out of the great circle ray map, so not 100% sure).
North Pacific (about 4 days travel time from the NW corner of the North Pacific):

South Pacific (about 7 days travel time from east/west of New Zealand):

Morning sky.
