Wednesday 7 22 20 morning call

Another day of glassy conditions on the south shore, I only took very few pictures to show the waist high glassiness.

Lady is inefficiently lifting too much water out of her stroke.

Derek Hamasaki getting creative in a photo by Tedford Mahiko. The wing thing is opening up so many new possibilities... two days ago I did my first upwinder/downwinder. Two reaches to get from Kanaha to Baldwin (with the harness, the thing goes incredibly tight upwind) and then riding (or trying to) bumps back to the start. Something I've never done before. So many things I've never done before and so many things to learn. Yesterday, for example, I caught 5 waves on a GL100 (no wing, just paddling). It was way too small for waist high south shore waves, but the amount of things I learned was shocking. I feel like I want to try every single foil and piece of equipment out there...

4am significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
1.3ft @ 13s from 188° (S)
0.8ft @ 16s from 201° (SSW)

As I wrote, most of the energy yesterday was still the 13s one and today that one is down to 1.3ft. 0.8ft 16s will add some inconsistent longer period sets, but overall it should be a smaller day than yesterday. The Lahaina webcam seems to confirm that, but there's still gems out there. Please check it yourself if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
Pauwela
5.1ft @ 9s from 50° (NE)

Windswell is up at Hookipa (probably up to head high) and on eastern exposures. Nice lack of wind in the early morning.

Wind map at noon
(the other ones can be found at link n.-2 of GP's meteo websites list in the right column).

Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: apparent direct aim, but out of the great circle ray map, so not 100% sure).
