Thursday 7 16 20 morning call

The Facebook memories thing reminded me of this big swell that yesterday last year hit Maui. Most spots in Lahaina were a 10, particularly Breakwall (not in the photo). Yesterday instead the south shore was instead a fun waist to belly high. Not quite the same, but still much better than flat.

4am significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.6ft @ 14s from 203° (SSW)
2.8ft @ 9s from 171° (S)

Lanai
1.9ft @ 15s from 198° (SSW)

The SSW readings are decent, but the consistency is probably low. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
Pauwela
3.9ft @ 9s from 70° (ENE)

Small waves at Hookipa, bigger on eastern exposures, which this morning will be blessed by some light winds (or lack of thereof).

Wind map at noon
(the other ones can be found at link n.-2 of GP's meteo websites list in the right column).

Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: apparent direct aim, but out of the great circle ray map, so not 100% sure).
North Pacific (about 4 days travel time from the NW corner of the North Pacific):

South Pacific (about 7 days travel time from east/west of New Zealand):

Morning sky.
