Sunday 1 22 23 morning call

Hookipa yesterday afternoon.

6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Lanai

Barbers

  • 2.7ft
    , 7s, S 170º

Very small southerly windswell at the buoys, but there will be some west wrap at some spots, specially in the afternoon. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

  • 20.1ft
    , 19s, NW 305º
  • 6.1ft
    , 11s, WNW 295º
  • 5.1ft
    , 8s, NW 315º

NW002

  • 24.1ft
    , 19s, WNW 295º

Hanalei

  • 14.6ft
    , 18s, NW 315º
  • 9.5ft

Waimea

  • 13.2ft

  • 4.4ft
    , 22s, NW 320º

New giant swell on the rise all day: 24ft 19s at the NW002 buoys is an extremely high reading, probably the biggest I've every seen. Below are the maps of January 19 through 21 that show the fetch that generated it.

Below are is the Surfline forecast showing a peak tonight at 14.5ft 18s from 318.
The Eddie will be streamed on this page (starts at 8am) and the Surfline Waimea webcam shows massive waves and great conditions. Let's not forget the Legends of the Bay contest at Honolua today and tomorrow. Unfortunately there will be no streaming for that, but the conditions should be excellent too.

Not even going to try to home guess how many times overhead Hookipa is going to be in the late afternoon, but early morning there will be spots on the north shore that won't be too big yet, so get them on early and be extremely cautious as the swell will ramp up quickly.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
