I'm off the water again to rest my sore hip muscles and really enjoyed this video that Kane posted a couple of days ago. Lots of people downwinding on foil this season, thanks to the barracuda boards that made it a bit more accessible for the most and to the Foil Drive that made it a lot more accessible for some (I have three in stock at Hi-Tech). Plenty races coming up in July:
- the Maui to Molokai on July 14th
- the Paddle Imua on July 23rd
- the Molokai to Oahu on July 30th
6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
- 1.5ft, 13s, S 175º
- 2.6ft, 7s, SSE 150º
- 0.5ft, 18s, SSW 195º
Lanai
- 1.7ft, 12s, S 175º
- 0.8ft, 18s, SW 215º
Small kind mixed southerly energies at the buoys.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested,
for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
Hanalei
- 3.1ft, 8s, ENE 65º
- 1ft, 15s, WNW 300º
Mokapu
- 4.7ft, 7s, ENE 65º
Hanalei shows 1ft 15s of WNW energy. I believe it comes from the fetch of typhoon Guchol indicated by the black stick in the maps below of June 12 though 14. After that, the low became occluded, got stronger and stalled and created an out of season NW swell that could reach 3ft 13s on Monday.
Today it's going to be mostly about the windswell instead, home guess for Hookipa is waist to chest high, getting bigger mid day when the trades blow strongest. Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: possibly over the ice sheet) from Windy.
