"Hey Kai, how many bean burritos you got today?"
"Seven!"
Action packed shot.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the channel, the windsurfers were ripping at Hookipa: Browsinho.
Ian Walsh and one of his brothers (pictured below, I can never tell who's Shaun and who's DK) went out at the point on their Jaws guns.
Kai Barger.
Albee Layer.
This is around 2.30pm, shot from the car. Kai on a bomb.
Ricardo Campello.
This is now 4pm: Alex Aguera winging.
And around 5pm Kai was out again on his kite with a wakeboard style twin tip. He was going out full speed and carving into the incoming wave throwing buckets of spray and destroying lips. The level of energy he was putting into each single maneuver was incredible till the very end. I think he ate something else on top of those burritos...
Your dedicated (and with nothing else to do) Maui Surf Reporter didn't only take photos of others.
Couldn't decide which shot I liked better, da hell I'll post both. It looks better than it was, but the colors were unreal.
4am significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore

Lanai
1ft @ 20s from 191° (SSW)
New long period SSW swell showing at the buoys a bit earlier than predicted by Pat Caldwell. Below is the collage of the fetches maps of April 10 thorugh 16. First phase of this swell will be 100% Tasmanian, second phase more from the south.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency, it looks excruciatingly slow, but that's normal for the start of such a distantly generated Tasman Sea swell.

4ft @ 11s from 301° (WNW)
3.3ft @ 9s from 354° (N)

WNW swell on the decline all day today, but with 5ft 13s to start with, there should still be plenty waves to play with. Hookipa will be around head and a half, will try to report from the beach later. Much smaller down the coast.
Wind map at noon (the other ones can be found at link n.-2 of GP's meteo websites list in the right column).
North Pacific fetches map (about 4 days travel time from the NW corner):
NW fetch n.2 is now aiming east we might get a bit of angular spreading.
South Pacific fetches map (about 7 days travel time from east of New Zealand):
