Austin Kalama upside down at the harbor yesterday...
...before switching to SUP surfing.
6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
- 1.4ft, 15s, SSW 210º
- 2.5ft, 7s, SSE 165º
- 0.6ft, 13s, SW 225º
Interesting SSW energy at Lanai. Below are the maps of February 11 through 14 that show the fetch that generated it.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
Waimea
- 6.6ft, 15s, NW 320º
- 7.2ft, 10s, NNE 30º
Mokapu
- 7.8ft, 10s, NE 45º
The high short period NE energy is "canceling" the NW one at all buoys but the more protected Waimea, which instead still shows a healthy 6.6ft 15s. The Sunset Beach webcam seems to confirm that.
Home guess for Hookipa is head and a half to possibly double of the above described mix of longer period NW and shorter period NE.
Contradicting (or rather correcting) what I wrote yesterday about the upcoming weather, the ESE wind direction and the frequent rains (check the 7am Windy radar below) might provide opportunities of clean waves. The key of the game will be to be at the right place, at the right time, with the right gear. Good luck to everyone.
Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: possibly over the ice sheet) from Windy.
