Couple of pictures of Hookipa yesterday, kindly sent to me by Patrick Wardle.
5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai

Out of season long period south swell shows very good numbers at the buoys. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
NW001
- 4.7ft, 16s, NW 315º
- 6.4ft, 9s, E 85º
- 3.5ft, 8s, NE 50º
Hanalei
- 6.3ft, 10s, ENE 70º
- 3ft, 15s, NW 320º
- 4.1ft, 8s, NE 35º
Waimea
- 4.6ft, 10s, N 350º
- 1.7ft, 17s, NW 310º
- 2.1ft, 13s, NW 315º
New moderate size long period NW swell is rising at the buoys. Below are the maps of January 28 though 30 that show the fetch that generated it (black arrow). As you can see, it moved across the great circle rays, which explains its relatively moderate size. The blue arrow shows the fetch that generated the short period northerly energy that has been in our waters the last couple of days and is still reading 4.6ft 10s at Waimea.
Below is the Surfline forecast showing the NW energy reaching 3ft 16s mid day.
Home guess for Hookipa feel like a shot in the dark these days. There will be a mix of high consistency short period peaky waves from the north together with the rising less consistent longer period NW sets and the size should be around head to head and a half. Another no wind day, but after a month and a half of absence, the trades are about to make a proper return.
Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
