Dear Mr Mayor,
I am a Maui resident since 1969.
I surf Hookipa at dawn whenever there are waves.
On Sunday, July 9, I arrived at Hookipa at 5:30 am. and waited until
6:35 for the gate to open. Many others also waited, creating a very dangerous
situation with cars speeding by at 45 mph, and children dodging them, and with
surfers turning into the small area outside the gate, only to have to back out into traffic
when they discovered the gate was still locked.
I do not comprehend why the this gate is not opened on time.
This happens frequently.

P.S. The Waiehu Municipal Golf Course opens every day with tee times beginning at 6 am, and with golfers required to be there 30 minutes before tee time. What time is the gate opened? What time do County employees go to work there?
Are golfers more important than surfers to the County of Maui?
