Friday 4 8 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday afternoon. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this gallery.

This is the track of my wind downwinder yesterday (I also did a shorter Foil Drive assisted SUP foiling one earlier). I went with the HA525 and that might have been a bad idea, as I'm still learning it and the conditions were pretty radical. I first was rejected by the waves on the reef and when I finally managed to squeeze out, I then fell 9 times. Starting in 30-40 knots wasn't the easiest feat, but great learning experience and also some epic moments.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers
0.8ft at 15s SSE 165º

Small long period southerly energy at Barbers. Below are the maps of April 1 through 4 that show the angular spreading fetch that generated it.

Check the Lahaina and Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW101

7.4ft @ 8s from 72° (ENE)
3.1ft @ 12s from 354° (N)

Hanalei

8.5ft @ 8s from 45° (NE)
4.5ft @ 12s from 334° (NNW)

Waimea

5.5ft @ 8s from 14° (NNE)
3.9ft @ 11s from 342° (NNW)

Pauwela

7.7ft @ 8s from 51° (ENE)
4.4ft @ 12s from 319° (NW)
3.1ft @ 11s from 335° (NNW)

NW swell peaked yesterday and turned NNW and today should be declining all day. Plenty waves on the north shore anyway, thanks to the elevated ENE windswell. Home guess for Hookipa is for head to head and a half and stormy.

Forecast of Pauwela from this PACIOOS page.
