Thursday 6 30 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday.

Posted on June 28, this wonderful performance of Lily Meola on the AGT show already got 2.5 million views on Youtube. I got very emotional since she, her brother Matt and their mom Nancy were my next door neighbors a while ago, but even if you never met her, I wish you good luck at not crying when watching it.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers
3ft at 15s S 185º

Long lasting south swell on its way down, but still providing nice waves. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

Mokapu

  • 6ft
    , 7s, ENE 65º

This seems to be the new buoy page on Surfline. I don't like as much as the previous one, but at least they still have one.
The windswell at Mokapu is up to 6ft 7s, home guess for Hookipa is for waist to chest high.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

Wednesday 6 29 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday.

In the meantime that I eventually edit yet another video that will interest an extremely little number of people (a comparison between Armstrong A+ and non A+ 85cm masts), here's an unedited clip from yesterday's downwind run n.2. Excellent conditions.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers
3.4ft at 15s S 190º

The second pulse of this long lasting south swell must have arrived, as the period went back up to 15s.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

Mokapu
5.2ft at 7s ENE 75º

Surfline is discontinuing on of the main reasons why I pay for the subscription: the page with all the buoy readings. If you are a subscriber too and don't like that, please send them an email about it.
Windswell only in the water, home guess for Hookipa is around waist high.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

I just uploaded a video about my test of a plate shim.

4am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore

South swell pretty solid at Barbers, even without the predicted reinforcing second pulse showing yet (but it might be in the water nonetheless). Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
N
3.2ft @ 10s from 35° (NE)

Mokapu
3.4ft @ 9s from 50° (NE)

Short period NE windswell surprisingly still there. Home guess for Hookipa is waist to shoulder high.

Sunday 6 26 22 morning call

No photos from yesterday. Teahupoo went off on the southerly energy coming our way. Photo by Tim McKenna.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers

2.1ft at 18s S 175º
1.2ft at 13s S 175º

New long period south swell is up at Barbers. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency (this last one is going to be low as usual with the start of a long period distantly generated swell).

North shore
N
3.7ft @ 10s from 73° (ENE)

Hanalei
3.8ft @ 9s from 62° (ENE)

Waimea

1ft @ 11s from 31° (NE)

Mokapu
3.2ft @ 9s from 70° (ENE)

Hilo
3.4ft @ 9s from 76° (ENE)

The new small ENE energy is at the buoys. Home guess for Hookipa is for waist to shoulder high. Bigger on eastern exposures.

Saturday 6 25 22 morning call

South shore yesterday.

5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers

1.8ft at 13s SSW 195º
0.3ft at 22s S 180º

Samoa
6.7ft @ 13s from 180° (S)

Southerly energy down to 1.8ft 13 at Barbers. The very small 22s reading is the first arriving energy of a relatively big south swell (or couple of them) that was generated east of New Zealand by the fetches illustrated below in the map collage of June 18 through 23. Surfline predicts 2.5ft 18s from it tomorrow morning. I reported Samoa too to show the decent size it reads today. In 4.5 days we'll see how much of that energy will make it over here.

Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

Waimea
0.5ft @ 13s from 34° (NE)

Mokapu
2.8ft @ 8s from 74° (ENE)

Windswell is declining at Mokapu, north shore is going to look pretty flat (and calm) this morning. The half foot 13s from 34 at the usually very sensitive Waimea buoy might be the only sign (the other buoys don't show anything) of a small NE swell that Surfline predicts to reach 4.4ft 11s this afternoon. That seems a bit optimistic looking at the fetch in the collage of the maps of June 22 through 25 below. Nonetheless, there should be some waves at Hookipa in the afternoon.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.

3.5ft @ 8s from 79° (ENE)
2.2ft @ 6s from 74° (ENE)
