Monday 8 10 20 morning call

Attempt n.26 at SUP foiling downwinder went down yesterday. This time I tried the GL240 on the 24.5 mast. I knew it was going to be short and overfoily, but I wanted to see if it offered a more direct response in the foil and it did. It's also faster than the thicker, wider and longer 29.5 (which I knew already from surfing). Next time, I'll add the 3 inches tuttle to tuttle extension and it will overfoil less, but with a bit of extra slogging drag. And the pieces of the puzzle keep on changing.

This is Alan Cadiz's latest wingfoiling video.

4am significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.1ft @ 16s from 170° (S)
0.9ft @ 12s from 194° (SSW)

Lanai
0.9ft @ 18s from 192° (SSW)

Slivers of long period energy at the buoys, it's probably a case of a decent wave/set once in a very long while, in the midst of flatness. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
Waimea
0.9ft @ 11s from 329° (NW)

Pauwela
4.7ft @ 8s from 89° (E)
0.8ft @ 11s from 353° (N)

As predicted the NW energy we talked about a few days ago is barely noticeable at the buoys, probably not noticeable at all in the water. Windswell is pretty easterly, so pretty small waves at Hookipa, bigger on eastern exposures.

Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: apparent direct aim, but out of the great circle ray map, so not 100% sure).
North Pacific (about 4 days travel time from the NW corner of the North Pacific):

South Pacific (about 7 days travel time from east/west of New Zealand):
