Sunday 5 29 22 morning call

Maalaea yesterday.

Close encounter on one of my runs yesterday.

Stole this picture from this page, what a magnificent creature! There's way more turtles around, but they're easier to spot and they got shells, these guys have no protection instead. I really hope I'll never hit one.

4am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers
3.6ft at 17s SSW 195ยบ

South swell went down one second in period but should still be quite elevated today. Check the Lahaina and Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
Hanalei
2.2ft @ 13s from 304° (WNW)

Waimea
1.8ft @ 14s from 307° (WNW)

Mokapu
3.5ft @ 7s from 88° (E)

Small WNW energy at the nearest upstream buoys. Below are the maps of May 23 through 27 that show the fetch that generated it. Home guess for Hookipa is for waist to chest high but only later in the day. This morning still flat (just went to check at 6am).

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
