Thursday 5 5 22 morning call

Hookipa yesterday afternoon. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this album.

Hookipa late afternoon.

The south swell was pumping at La Perouse. This is Robby Swift, photo by Erik Aeder.

With the NW swell down to 12-14s period, this morning's reading at Barbers must be a real one. This is a second pulse of the large south swell that started a few days ago. Below is again the collage of the maps of April 25 through 29 (already posted three days ago), this time with a red arrow to indicate the first low that generated the swell we had for the first half of the week and a black arrow to indicate the second low that merged with the first one and generated the second pulse we see at Barbers today. Seems to be even bigger.

Check the Lahaina and Kihei webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

Hanalei
5.7ft @ 13s from 319° (NW)

Waimea
5.2ft @ 14s from 319° (NW)

Mokapu
6ft @ 9s from 78° (ENE)

NW swell is coming down in period at the upstream buoys. Size should still be solid in the morning, with a slow downward trend throughout the day. Home guess for Hookipa is head and a half to double.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
