Monday 5 24 21 morning call

No photos of the day. This is an amazing under water shot by Ben Thouard.

3-4am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.1ft @ 18s from 213° (SW)

Lanai

1ft @ 18s from 212° (SW)

New small long period SW energy is at the buoys. Below are the maps of May 16 through 18 that show the fetch in the Tasman Sea. After that, it moved to the east of New Zealand, but we'll check that when the related swell arrives (in about three days).

Tasman Sea swells are particularly inconsistent, so, as usual, check the Lahaina or Kihei webcams if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW101
3.7ft @ 11s from 348° (NNW)

Hanalei
2.7ft @ 12s from 340° (NNW)

Waimea
3.2ft @ 12s from 338° (NNW)

Pauwela

3.6ft @ 9s from 72° (ENE)
3.2ft @ 11s from 348° (NNW)

First, let's have a look at what's happening with the wind from this NOAA page:
A front approaching the region from the northwest will stall to the northwest of the islands as it weakens into a trough. This will weaken trade winds to variable breezes over the western islands while veering gentle winds east southeast over more eastern windward waters through Tuesday. As the weak trough washes out north of the islands through the middle of the week, high pressure to the northeast will reestablish itself and allow for the return of more moderate trades the second half of the week
.

Below are the graphs of Pauwela together with yesterday's prediction and the Surfline forecast.
The complete lack of wind in the morning in conjunction with the arrival of the small NNW swell we analyzed yesterday should give Hookipa excellent conditions. Home guess is for head high plus and clean, even though a radical low tide at 6.46am might limit the size a bit.

Forecast and energy spectrum of Pauwela from this PACIOOS page.
