Kanaha yesterday.
HSA surf contest at Hookipa today and tomorrow. This is the tentative heat order.
6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
- 1ft, 17s, SSW 205º
Barbers
- 1.2ft, 17s, S 185º
New small long period southerly energy is at the boys. Below are the maps of November 4 through 6 that show the fetch that generated it. Long travel and plenty of angular spreading involved, so expect very low consistency.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
N
- 7.3ft, 10s, NNE 20º
- 3.4ft, 7s, NNE 20º
- 2.7ft, 4s, NNE 30º
Hanalei
- 4.9ft, 11s, NNE 20º
- 5.2ft, 7s, NNE 25º
- 2.5ft, 9s, NNE 20º
Waimea
- 4.1ft, 11s, N 10º
- 5ft, 8s, NNE 15º
- 3.8ft, 5s, NNE 15º
Mokapu
- 5ft, 12s, NNE 25º
- 5.5ft, 8s, NNE 20º
- 3.6ft, 6s, NNE 20º
Hilo
- 7.3ft, 10s, NNE 15º
No signs of the new long period NW swell that is predicted by Surfline to rise to 2.7ft 19s at 6pm. It is very likely that its very low energy is masked at the buoys by the elevated NNE short period energy that today instead ramped up to 7.3ft 10s at the N and Hilo buoy (biggest to our east). The onshore wind will make a mess of all that, home guess for Hookipa is head and a half to double and stormy. Pretty challenging conditions for the kids at the contest.
