The 18ft 16s reading at the NW buoy announces a sharp rise in the wave size that will happen locally throughout the day. Below are the maps of February 12 through 15 that show the fetch that generated it.

Proximity is the reason for that huge number, but unfortunately that also means we're going to be influenced by the front's winds and weather and those will be quite unfavorable. The 6.5ft 8s reading at Waimea also tells us that the first energy that will arrive will be short period, while the long period stuff should arrive in the afternoon. Home guess for Hookipa based on the 6am readings is for very small waves, but the rise will be quick and at sunset should be triple overhead plus and out of control.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
