Thursday 6 24 21 morning call

Hookipa yesterday morning.

This video illustrates the modification of the handles of my 4.2 F1 Strike. It can be done to any handles.

3am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.8ft @ 15s from 184° (S)
1.5ft @ 18s from 186° (S)

Lanai

1.3ft @ 15s from 182° (S)
1.5ft @ 11s from 170° (S)

Small 15s soutnerly energy at the buoys, but Lanai also shows 1.5ft 18s from a new long period pulse.
Let's see how Pat Caldwell described the source:
The second was stronger and broader with 25-30 feet seas aimed just E of Hawaii 6/16-17. It was a long way away, beyond 4300 nm, down within 55-65S latitude within 170-180W longitude. This reduces the local surf size potential. It weakened and moved east of the Hawaii swell window 6/18-19.

Below is the map of June 17. There wasn't much after it, so I left it alone together with the great circle ray map that also shows the latitude. Notice I only circled the section above 65 degrees. Any wind more south than that is likely to be blowing over the ice sheet (and obviously not making any waves).

Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW001
3.6ft @ 10s from 336° (NNW)

Waimea
2.5ft @ 11s from 328° (NW)

Hanalei
3.6ft @ 11s from 326° (NW)

Pauwela

2.6ft @ 9s from 54° (ENE)
2.4ft @ 11s

Small NW pulse seems to have veered more north, so today we should get more energy than yesterday, but still nothing to lose your sleep over. Better swell on tap for the weekend (as shown by the purple dotted line in the PACIOOS Pauwela forecast below).
Have you noticed the massive low that took over the north Pacific in the last couple of days (north Pacific fetch map below)? If it wasn't for the lack of wind intensity, that would be a typical winter pressure configuration.
As a result, the wind today will be pretty light and that should give clean conditions in the early morning everywhere.
Home guess for Hookipa is around chest high and clean.
