Summer looking Hookipa yesterday.
5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
- 1.8ft, 11s, S 185º
- 1.3ft, 15s, S 190º
- 0.7ft, 20s, SSW 210º
Lanai
- 1.3ft, 15s, S 185º
- 2.1ft, 8s, SSE 150º
- 1.3ft, 11s, S 185º
Mix of southerly energies at the buoys. Below are the maps of May 13 to 17 that show the fetch that generated them. After that, there have been constant fetches in the Tasman Sea and pumping surf in Fiji and Barbers shows the first arrival of that with a 0.7ft 20s reading. Not much to be expected from it, just yet at least.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
NW001
- 1.9ft, 11s, WNW 300º
Hanalei
- 0.9ft, 12s, W 280º
- 0.4ft, 14s, W 275º
Waimea
- 0.9ft, 13s, WNW 295º
Mokapu
- 5ft, 6s, E 100º
The small WNW energy recorded by some of the buoys are not going to do anything on our north shore, which will mostly have the easterly windswell you see at Mokapu. Home guess for Hookipa is flat to waist high, bigger on eastern exposures.
Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: possibly over the ice sheet) from Windy.
North Pacific (about 4 days travel time from the NW corner of the North Pacific):
