Hookipa at sunset yesterday.
5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
- 2.9ft, 13s, S 180º
- 0.8ft, 11s, S 180º
Lanai
- 2.8ft, 13s, S 180º
- 1.1ft, 15s, S 180º
Both buoys show some long period southerly energy.
Surprisingly the direction looks like 180 for all the readings, but the 13s one should be from the Tasman Sea as the maps of May 8 through 10 show below.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
N
- 4.6ft, 11s, N 350º
Hanalei
- 4.5ft, 11s, N 0º
- 2.5ft, 8s, NNE 15º
Waimea
- 4.8ft, 11s, N 350º
Hookipa yesterday was quite bigger than the head and a half I called. Well oriented and relatively close fetches do that. The readings would suggest a head and a half size for Hookipa again, but it might be bigger. No wind till around 10am.
Fetches map (circles legend: red: direct aim, blue: angular spreading, black: blocked, yellow: possibly over the ice sheet) from Windy.
North Pacific (about 4 days travel time from the NW corner of the North Pacific):
